Staging

A revised staging plan has been developed. This shows the likely order in which Bonnyrigg will be redeveloped. This may change depending on home sales and approvals.

We will rebuild Bonnyrigg in 18 small stages over 13 years to:

• Limit the impacts on the communities within and around Bonnyrigg;
• Make rehousing of community housing tenants easier;
• House neighbours together where possible and preferable.

Existing private owners

• We will work with existing private owners on their particular needs throughout the redevelopment;
• No private owners will be forced to sell their home, or be forced to move during the redevelopment.

Existing community housing tenants

• Tenants who choose to remain in Bonnyrigg will be rehoused when the stage their existing home is in comes up for redevelopment;
• New community housing will be built in Bonnyrigg for everyone who said they want to stay;
• Most community housing tenants will be given temporary housing within Bonnyrigg while they wait for their new home - some tenants in later stages can move straight into their new homet;
• Newleaf Communities will give at least 6 months written notice to tenants before rehousing starts in each stage.

Stage One underway

• All Stage One tenants were rehoused by October 2008;
• Demolition of houses in Stage 1 began in November 2008;
• Work will begin on building new homes in early 2009, with completion expected during 2010.
